A show of democracy at its worst.
The Colonial Parkway from Yorktown, VA to Jamestown, VA will be shutdown. The Yorktown National Battlefield will be shutdown as well. Both are great places to ride, especially in the Autumn.
The entire 184-mile C&O Canal Historic Park and the adjacent DC portion of the Capital Crescent Trail are closed to all visitation. “Bicyclists planning rides from Pittsburgh to DC on the GAP and C&O Canal should plan to turn back at Cumberland” [ http://canaltrust.org/trust/index.php?page=government-shutdown ]
We understand the Blue Eidge Parkway will remain open during the shut down. However, we also understand amenities like camping, hotels, food, water and restrooms will not be available. Be prepared.
We have no idea whether Rangers will be patrolling and enforcing speed limits, so if you plan to cycle on the BRP, PLEASE USE EXTRA CAUTION and ride DEFENSIVELY!
Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive closed. http://bit.ly/1aR9zFL
Va State Parks are open and welcome your visit.
