The National Center for Safe Routes to School highlighted the Virginia Safe Routes to School’s novel approach to expanding the program throughout the state. Safe Routes to School is a national program that encourages and enables school-age children to walk or bicycle to and from school safely, and the program is typically housed in state departments of transportation.
