Join Governor Tim Kaine, Secretary of Transportation Pierce Homer, and other dignitaries, citizens, and cyclists from across Virginia at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Richmond Phase of the Virginia Capital Trail — this Thursday, December 17, 11:45 AM, at Great Shiplock Park in downtown Richmond (Dock and Pear streets, click here to download a printable map, with directions).
This is the western terminus of the new multi-use trail running from Jamestown through Williamsburg to Richmond. When completed, the Virginia Capital Trail will total 54 miles, parallel to Scenic Route 5, one of the most historic transportation corridors in Virginia.

Wait, the only directions you post on here are limited to automobiles as they all instruct people to use interstates? This is just representative of a real problem that we have in Richmond that other cities in the union have started rectifying: namely that everyone relies on their automobile almost universally for transportation and only sees the bicycle as a form of recreation. We need to start catching up with cities like New York and Portland and start changing this mentality now.
Luke: you bring up a good point.
To answer your question, automobile directions were all that were provided, so that’s what I used. Most webmasters don’t have time to research this stuff. But make it available to us, and we’ll use it for sure!
The cure is to get bike information into map apps and GIS systems. “Bike there” in Google maps is probably in the works, but cyclists can use tools that are are available right now, such as Bikely, OpenStreetMap, or local resources like Ride Solutions bike map.
Bike map or no, I hope everyone can ride their bike to this event. Let the powers that be see how many of us there are!
