A tornado touched down on the Virginia Creeper Trail on April 27, destroying the 680′ Trestle #7 located about six miles from the Abingdon trailhead. That section of the trail has been temporarily closed.

According to Kevin Worley, Director of Parks and Recreation for Abingdon, debris from the destroyed structure has been removed and provisions are are being made to route the trail thought the open field. They hope to have the trail officially open, weather permitting, by June 17.
