The Warrior Ride

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wounded Warriors Rolling into Virginia

Norfolk, Virginia – Nation’s Heroes to take part in cycling event conducted by The Warrior Ride. Wounded Warriors will participate in a bicycle ride that will begin 26April2012 aboard the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story.

The Warrior Ride is a non-profit organization that conducts morale building events, such as adaptive cycling for wounded service members. The Cycling events are an opportunity for the Warriors to have fun, be with their peers, be honored and be physically challenged.

This is not your typical bike ride; it is an adaptive cycling event. Several of the participants will have specially designed bicycles and three wheel recumbent bikes.

There is no cost to the Warriors to participate. All expenses for meals, lodging, cycling attire, an adaptive bicycle and airfare is covered. Without the generous donors the rides would not be possible.

There will be a Community ride in Chesapeake on 27April2012. The community is encouraged to join the Warriors on their ride. There is a $25.00 registration fee and all of the money will help pay for future Warrior Rides. The ride will begin at Fat Frogs Bike and Fitness, 237 Hanbury Road E, Suite 13 Chesapeake, VA. Registration will begin at 8:30am.

The Rides are coordinated by Bob and Debra Racine, from Oak Island, NC. They are the founders of The Warrior Ride. Bob and Debra held their first adaptive cycling event in 2005. They knew from that very first event that adaptive cycling presented itself as a tool for recreation and rehabilitation for wounded service members. Adapting bicycles to injuries can be challenging, but they make it work.

Bob Racine is a three tour Vietnam Vet. Being a Veteran himself Bob understands the sacrifices made every day by our Servicemen and woman.

  • I have been a part of a team at the University of Rochester that has created a device that has the ability to be attached to a recumbent tricycle (currently SunCycles EZ classic) and incorporate full braking, shifting of all 21 gears and precise steering into a single handlebar. This bar like mentioned earlier would be bought separate to the tricycle and attached. Upon attachment, the device could be switched from dual arm use to single arm use. Perfect for programs that suit both types of use and easily assembled by an individual with one arm for home use. Any information on this topic would be helpful, and be sure to check out our launch on #Innovocracy. Thank you!
