The Bicyclist Safety Act has been signed by the governor, and will take effect July 1.

Southside’s Tobacco Heritage Trail Making Progress

Tobacco Heritage Trail logoRoanoke River Rails-to-Trails announced  construction of Phases II and III of the Tobacco Heritage Trail  will  begin in late fall/early winter 2011.  Phase II will consist of  approximately 2.6   miles of trail in South Boston, which is located in Halifax County.  Phase III will connect two segments of existing trail, making 17 miles of continuous trail.

The THT will accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists and horse-back riders.

The construction of these phases of the Tobacco Heritage Trail is part of a larger, regional project by Roanoke River Rails-to-Trails Inc.  When complete, the THT will consist of 160 miles of trail, spanning 5 counties in Southside, Virginia.
