The Maryland Transportation Department will hold a public hearing Thursday, September 24 in Dahlgren, VA for input on the Governor Nice Bridge Improvement Project.
The existing, two lane bridge, located fifty miles outside the Washington beltway is heavily traveled and impassable by bikes or pedestrians. The current configuration requires a 120 mile detour for cyclists who want to ride from Maryland to the Northern Neck or Tidewater Virginia.
There are six build alternatives, including an optional bike and pedestrian lane. All cyclists should attend this hearing, to support bike-ped access:
