International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) Logo

Are you a shaker and a mover? A self-starter and a cheerleader? Can you get the ball rolling, and keep it rolling? IMBA needs you! Here’s a piece of the job description:

“Regional directors will be responsible for collaborating with IMBA’s grassroots partners to assess opportunities, cultivate leadership within the mountain bike advocacy community, and generate the resources to make potential trail projects a reality. The position reports to the executive director and works closely with IMBA’s staff, including other regional directors from across the country. Regional directors will also organize and manage a 10-15 member Regional Leadership Council (RLC) in their region and collaborate on the organization and management of councils in adjacent regions. The RLCs are advisory panels established to assist in the development of regional resources.”

Legislative Update, Feb. 10 2009

Just received a call from Barbara Duerk, who is down at the Legislature today.

HB2088, which will require the 3 state agencies to coordinate and
evaluate the recreational access and safety issues directly related to new railroad projects that receive state funding, passed the full House by a 99-0 vote and now will cross over to the Senate.

Similarly, HB2008, which will prohibit bicycles and other slow moving vehicles from Interstate Highways, except when permitted by the Commonwealth Transportation Board, also passed the full House yesterday by a 98-0 vote.

HB1876, which will prohibit operation of a vehicle while sending a text message or Email, has passed its 2nd reading and been engrossed, so it could also pass the full House today or tomorrow.

SB1239, requiring motorists to stop for Pedestrians in Crosswalks, passed the Senate 24-16 last week, and now will cross over to the House, where it will have a tough time, but we have a shot at getting it passed.

Four of our bills still alive at crossover is pretty good. Stand by to call your Delegate when SB1239 is listed, and your Senator when the three House bills are slated. I will alert you when the time comes.

Thanks for everyone’s help so far.

Keep Transportation Enhancement in the Stimulus Bill!
