Virginia Beach authorities have decided that no charges will be filed for the crash that killed Daniel Wayne Hersh.
Mr. Hersh was riding along Shore Dr. in Virginia Beach when he was struck from behind by a motorist.

Laura Robinson, a former national-level cyclist and cross-country skier, is the author of “Black Tights: Women, Sport and Sexuality.” She has witnessed SUV’s with limited visibility, nearly hit pedestrians and bicyclists. She equates SUV drivers as endemic of what is wrong with our culture today. She says, “Maybe our car culture and oil addiction have landed us exactly where we deserve in the Middle East. The nasty people who consider it unnecessary to watch for human beings on the sidewalk aren’t that far removed from the ones now plotting war.”
