Shenandoah Valley City Receives Bronze Award from Bikeleague
The League of American Bicyclists has announced that Harrisonburg, VA has been added to the list of bike friendly communities across America by honoring the town with a bronze level award.
Carly Sieff of the League staff said, “We were impressed with their efforts and wanted to make sure (everyone) knew of the great work they were doing to promote bicycling..”
This makes Harrisonburg the fifth Virginia community to receive bike friendly awards.
Other bike friendly cities in Virginia include:
- Arlington (Silver);
- Alexandria (Bronze);
- Charlottesville (Bronze);
- Roanoke (Bronze).
According to Thomas Jenkins, Chair of the Harrisonburg Bicycle and Pedestrian Sub Committee, “Over the past 12 months the City of Harrisonburg has made many positive steps to make the “Friendly CIty” become more bicycle friendly. The League of American Bicyclist recent Bronze level award for Harrisonburg demonstrates a commitment from City to become safer for all forms of transportation. The improvements the City has made for cyclist has been through years of cooperation between citizens, Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition and City Staff.”
