Heart of Virginia Century and Bike Festival

This year, VBF is holding its Annual Meeting at the Richmond Area Bicycling Association’s premier weekend event, the Heart of Virginia Century and Bike Festival. VBF meeting attendees are not required to participate in this cycling event, but event registration is open to all, and we encourage you to join us for a great weekend of late summer cycling.

Cycling Routes: The rides, through scenic and historic Hanover County, consist of 35-mile, metric (62-mile) and English (100-mile) centuries from 7 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, Sept. 19, and 30-, 35-, and 74-mile tours from 7 AM to 3 PM on Sunday, Sept. 20. All rides are show-and-go (no mass start) on marked circuit routes with multiple quality rest stops.

Ride Registration Fee: $50 for the full weekend, or $40 for either the Saturday or Sunday rides, (cash, personal check, or pre-register at Active.com), includes lunch each day, frequent rest stops with high-energy refreshments, sag/repair vehicles, marked and mapped routes, and free showers in the YMCA. Proceeds will benefit Hanover Habitat for Humanity. Riders must wear an approved bicycle helmet and sign a liability waiver.

Low-Cost Camping and Dining: Tent camping is available for $10.00 each night on the YMCA grounds, and the Estes Dining Hall at Randolph-Macon College will serve dinner from Friday to Sunday for a nominal fee.

Directions and Parking: The Patrick Henry YMCA, 217 Ashcake Rd. in Ashland, is 16 miles north of Richmond, off Interstate 95. Take Exit 92 B off I-95 (Route 54 West/Ashland), and go 1 mile west to Route 1 (Washington Hwy South). Turn Left on Route 1, and go 1 mile south to Ashcake Road. Turn Right onto Ashcake Road (large Sheetz gas station on the Right corner) and go approximately ½ mile before turning left at the Patrick Henry Family YMCA at 217 Ashcake Road. Parking at the YMCA is limited, so you may need to use overflow parking at the adjacent Lance and Bridle Club or at the Hanover County Department of Social Services parking lot off Route 1.

Saturday Night Entertainment: Join us for the Ashland End of Summer Street Party Saturday night on the tracks in downtown Ashland. Live bands, beer and food for sale, 6:30-10:30 PM. Tickets are $5 per person at Heart of Virginia registration and $10 at the Street Party. Children under twelve are free.
